Cuts target the poor and disabled

The Centre for Welfare Reform has recently produced a report which highlights that when looking at the combined impact of all the cuts which includes changes to housing and council tax benefit, reductions is budgets for social care;
    •    people in poverty (21% of the population) bear 39% of all cuts.
    •    disabled people (8% of the population) bear 29% of all cuts and
    •    people with severest disabilities (2% of the whole population) bear 15% of all cuts.
Roger said that the report confirmed what many people thought already namely that vulnerable groups were being asked to pay disproportionately towards cuts in public services.
“It gives a certain perspective to the squeals that you hear from bankers when their bonuses are cut or they are asked to take some responsibility for the mess that they created” said Roger.
